Bob Marley is one of my heros. His songs of love, freedom and redemption have inspired me since I was a little boy. I have often wondered if I was him and I was going to write just one song for the world to hear, which song would it be. How would I like to be remembered?
I think of No Woman No Cry. This was one of the first songs I heard from him. My brother, Utz, had spent the summer of 1977 in Sweden and he came back with fantastic stories of seeing a concert in Gröna Lund where “this Black guy with crazy hair sang amazing songs of black liberation.” We rushed up to Leopold Records on telegraph to see if we could figure out who it was. Right there in the front window we saw the Bob Marley Live cover.
We quickly bought it and rushed home. I remember listening to No Woman No Cry for the very first time. It was electric. Life changing.
I want to do something similar. I was to write down my thoughts and have that effect on a few people. I want my ideas to change the way someone thinks.
And so…
I begin my philosophy section with these words.
Love is the answer.
The most important thing is the love we show to others.
We are all one. All of us.
Jimi Hendirix is said; “When the Power of Love Overcomes the Love of Power the World Will Know Peace.”
While I agree, I think of it a little differently.
No Borders
No Military
No Money
Once we take down and get rid of what divides us, we will come together. We only stay apart because we do not yet see that we are all one.
