Yes, We Can!

The Yes We Can Song
by will.i.am

I was sitting in my recording studio watching the debates…
Torn between the candidates

I was never really big on politics…
and actually I’m still not big on politics…
but 4 years ago, me and the black eyed peas supported Kerry…
And we supported Kerry with all our might…
We performed and performed and performed for the DNC…
doing all we could do to get the youth involved…

The outcome of the last 2 elections has saddened me…
on how unfair, backwards, upside down, unbalanced, untruthful,
corrupt, and just simply, how wrong the world and “politics” are…

So this year i wanted to get involved and do all i could early…

And i found myself torn…

New Soul MP3

I’m a new soul I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take
But since I came here felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la…

I’m a young soul in this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit about what is true and fake
But why all this hate? Try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la…

This is a happy end
cause’ you don’t understand
everything you have done

Chase The Devil

“…because their ancestors were not Christians, they were cursed, Africa is cursed and the sins of their fathers are now visited upon all the children…”

Or, in the words of the great Max Romeo; “I’m going to put on an iron shirt and chase Satan out of earth!”

Kiss The Sky

Kiss the Sky

I hold my head up just enough to see the skies
And when we go we won’t go slow we’ll put up such a fight
When they fade into dust and into ash
But all children know for sure this pain will surely pass
Strong and wise… and you are love
And when the tide it comes, you will float above
And you will be one day exactly what you are
Just keep your head held high
Kiss your fist and touch the sky

It’s not too late to keep the world from dying
It’s not too late to spread the love you have
One day when we are ready for crying
One day I know that we’ll be there

Yesterday I Had The Blues

Yesterday I had the blues
Not the rain outside on the sidewalk blues
Not the Daddy won’t make French Toast blues
And not the deep down in your shoes blues

Yeah…

Yesterday I had the blues…

Max belted this out just now while I was making him lunch. Where do 5 year-olds get their inspiration? I do not know, but I sure am loving life with mine =)

Gomni - Ali Farka Touré & Toumani Diabeté [In The Heart Of The Moon]

In The Heart Of The Moon is a duet recording by Malian guitar slinger Ali Farka Toure and Mandé lineage griot Toumani Diabate on kora. There are a few other players who contribute percussion here and there, and Ry Cooder plays a Kawai piano on a couple of tracks and a Ripley guitar on one, but other than these cats, this is a live duo set without edits or enhancements

The Art Of Noise

Published on August 25, 2007

Lisa , thank you for the thoughts on The Art Of Noise. Few people seem to realize just how important non-Black/Hispanic folk were in early Hip Hop. I remember walking the streets of the Village in 1984-85 and hearing Art Of Noise (Beat Box), Malcolm McLaren (Buffalo Gals) and the The Dominatrix (The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight) blasting out of the boom boxes.

Don’t get me wrong, Hip-Hop is def a music that came from the ghetto and primarily from people of color. But when it started there were plenty of white folks who helped get it going. Hell, the Beastie Boys came late to the party (one of the dads is a record label owner. PS: They are playing today in
