Coming Home Soon – Latch Key Kid

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I just got back from mountain biking at CrankWorx with my friends, Hilary, Lance, Nels and Derrick. On the drive up there we watched this great bike movie called: Roam.

Of course it had an excellent soundtrack. My favorite song on it was by Latch Key Kid called Coming Home Soon.

(Verse Pattern)
A E
Where have all the young men gone?
A D
They’re leaving town one-by-one
A E
Johnny come and get your gun
A D A
Father give your only son

Fearlessly they lay down their lives
Son don’t be afraid to die
You’re fighting for the land that you love
Yeah, yeah, fighting for your God up above

When the bullets fall upon you like rain
And the starry night is burst into flame
Remember you’re the few, you’re the brave
Remember what you’re fighting to save

I know, you’ll be coming home soon
The war is over, it was on the evening news
Nobody’s winning when its life we have to lose
I know, you’ll be coming home soon, coming home soon.

Victory can be bittersweet
Insurrection in the street
It never comes without a price
And never without sacrifice

The suicidal bombs in their cars
Wrap em up in stripes and stars
Johnny boy is coming home
For a soldiers burial

When the bullets fall around you like rain
And the starry night is burst into flame
Remember you’re the few, you’re the brave
Remember what you’re fighting to save

I know you’ll be coming home soon
The war is over, it was on the evening news
Nobody’s winning when its life we have to lose
I know, you’ll be coming home soon, coming home soon.

I know you’ll be coming home soon
The war is over, it was on the evening news
Nobody’s winning when its life we have to lose
I know, you’ll be coming home soon, coming home soon.

Coming home soon…

OMG!!

I have been diggin Fat Freddy’s Drop for the past year or so. I have been listening to their 1.5 albums and never seem to tire of them. On a lark I Google’d them today only to discover that they have a new album coming out in a month =)

I then saw a link to the YouTube video above and believe this would be my perfect concert right now: Funk, Reggae and House with lyrics of love and progress. What more could I ask for? Their horns a tight, they have a great sense of rhythm, Joe Dukie (their lead singer) is fantastic! They even take a bunch story lines from Parliament/Funkadelic all the way down to Sir Nose D’Voidoffunk and Shiverman.

So off I go to explore links while looking forward to their release next month.

My first stop was their MySpace page. Reading down the page a bit I see where I can purchase and download the album right now. Fortunately I have a great friend in New Zealand [What-up Graeme!] and used his addy to get around any international sale restrictions. And what do you know… I am now the proud owner of Fat Freddy’s Drop’s latest album along with three tracks I previously could not find by Joe Dukie and DJ Fitchie!!! Woot! I love the internet =)

I found this great podcast by a Canadian who wants to introduce them to Canada.

I mean, come on, look at the video below. How can you not love these guys?!?!?! Play through the rain, signing about the Shiverman!!

“Be friends people. Live safe!”
