Links/URLs in blog posts

Monday, June 12th, 2006

It is very easy to put a link if your blog post. The format is like this:

<a href=”URL”>Title of URL</a>

NOTE: If people click on your link they will be taken away from your site (Not Good™) Change your link to include target=”_blank” and when they click on the link they will open up a new window while keeping a window open on your page (Good Thing™)

<a href=”URL” target=”_blank”>Title of URL</a>

Example: <a href=”http://peoplesgrocery.org/brahm/” target=”_blank”>Brahm’s Blog</a>
Working Example: Brahm’s Blog

PS: Make sure you deselect “Use the visual rich editor” – it messes stuff up! It is in you Adminstration “Options”.

To become human

Friday, June 9th, 2006

I do not think armies are the cause of our problems. Relationships based on exchange is. Borders, armies and money are the three foundations of our “civilization” that force this type of interaction. Humans need to interact not based on exchange and fear. Everyone should have enough to eat, clothing, housing and an education that encourages them to be who they are truly meant to be.

No one… no one should have the right to kill another for any reason. We will only become truly human when we, as a single family, understand that. Armies are one part of what keeps us from realizing our true potential.

How to transfer a domain to YVOD

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

If you already own a domain (website) and you want to transfer it over to YVOD, there are a number of things that need to happen. We are familiar with this process and are happy to assist you, however, much of it can be done by you without too much effort.

1) Unlock your domain

All domains have “locks” on them that prevent them from transferring ownership and hosting. This is a Good Thing™ since you do not want to wake up one day and find out someone has stolen your property. The organization you purchased the domain from (which is often the folks who currently host your domain) have the ability to “unlock” your domain. This should be a 5 minute painless process where you login to your domain user account and click the “unlock domain” box. If it is any more complicated than that, call your hosting provider and ask them to do it for you.

2) Let YVOD know you wish to transfer your domain

We need to do a bit of work on our end to accept your domain. We will set up a temporary account that will allow you to transfer your existing files and set up email. Again, we are happy to assist you with transferring your information.

3) Reply to the email you will receive from SRSPlus.com

YVOD will send you a request through SRSPlus.com within 24 hours asking if you want to transfer your domain. You must click on the supplied link that will take you to the SRSPlus.com website. Say “yup, transfer me” and away you go.

4) Enjoy the comforts of YVOD

If everything goes as planned, there should be no step 4. The Internet takes three to four days to update your records. You should experience no “downtime” if everything is handled correctly.

While this all sounds pretty simple and straight forward, please understand that the Internet is still a very new place and things can go wrong. YVOD is here to help you with all of this so please, send us an email if anything is unclear.
