Berkeley says it is hard to find high-quality African-American Jazz musicians

“High-quality” African-American Jazz musician are hard to find…

Re: I read that and it’s hard to figure. Yes, there are fewer black jazz musicians than there were, say 30 years ago, but why no black musicians this year? Very strange. I think (the new) Yoshi’s is pretty much run strictly as a business, so maybe that explains something.

Yup. If things do not matter, people do not notice. Obviously, working with black musicians is not a big deal for either Berkeley or Yoshi’s.

In my opine, most racism is not intentional… it is passive and only because folks feel comfortable working with people who are like them. Most folks define “like them” at some level to include the color of their skin. Strange, I know, but this is the society in which we live.

Shamed, Yoshi’s Pulls CD – “We apologize to anyone who feels slighted by this omission, as that was never our intention.”
