Guy Clark<\/a> is pretty fantastic! I really enjoy his songwriting. I am particularly fond of The Guitar<\/a> off his new album “Somedays The Song Writes You<\/a>“.<\/p>\n

Well, I was passing by a pawn shop
\nIn an older part of town
\nSomething caught my eye
\nAnd I stopped and turned around<\/p>\n

I stepped inside and there I spied
\nIn the middle of it all
\nWas a beat up old guitar
\nHanging on the wall.<\/p>\n

What do you want for that piece of junk
\nI asked the old man
\nHe just smiled and took it down
\nand he put it in my hand<\/p>\n

He said you tell me what it’s worth
\nYou’re the one who wants it
\nTurn it up, play a song
\nAnd let’s just see what haunts it<\/p>\n

So I hit a couple of cords
\nIn my old country way of strumming
\nAnd then my fingers turned to lightning
\nMan.. I never heard it coming<\/p>\n

It was like I always knew it
\nI just don’t know where I learned it
\nIt wasn’t nothin’ but the truth
\nSo I just reared back and burned it<\/p>\n

Well I lost all track of time
\nThere was nothing I couldn’t pick
\nUp and down the neck
\nI never missed a lick<\/p>\n

The guitar almost played itself
\nThere was nothing I could do
\nIt was getting hard to tell
\nJust who was playing who<\/p>\n

When I finally put it down
\nI couldn’t catch my breath
\nMy hands were shaking
\nAnd I was scared to death<\/p>\n

The old man finally got up
\nSaid where in the Hell you been
\nI’ve been waiting all these years
\nFor you to stumble in<\/p>\n

Then he took down an old dusty case
\nSaid go on and pack it up
\nYou don’t owe me nothing
\nAnd then he said good luck<\/p>\n

There was something spooky in his voice
\nAnd something strange on his face
\nWhen he shut the lid
\nI saw my name was on the case<\/p>\n
