Good luck Apple

Published on December 16, 2005

http://arstechnica.com/articles/culture/total-share.ars/5 - I find it interesting that the Mac never had more than 12% market share. When the Mac was introduced it was competing with IBM which had almost 30% market share. Funny how folks just do not get it. They say Apple “lost” the race by not selling cheaper hardware and licensing their OS. But IBM was already a standard.

Yes, they could have made a deal with Bill and attempted to make the Mac a second standard. I would enjoy seeing how that world would have turned out. One thing is certain, there was no guarantee of success had they done it. In other words, the game was not Apple’s to “lose” but theirs to “win” if

View and copy song lyrics with pearLyrics v0.6

  • pearLyrics, a Mac OS X tool for displaying song lyrics of the track currently being played in iTunes, is no longer available due to a cease and desist order from Warner/Chappell Music.

… all pearLyrics only searches and accesses publicly available websites, displays, and, at the users wish, caches its content.

This must be the easiest way to grab lyrics! Excellent example of a nice app that does one job and does it well. Finds the lyrics without user input, allows you to alter the search, looks for the song chords, copies the info found to your song ID tags… What more could you want?

Update: Nice to see a bit

World Live Web by Doc Searls

You just gotta read this article. Wonderful stuff in here.

  • Normally I would simply link to the URL, but in all their wisdom, Linux Journal wants everyone to create an account before they can read this essay. WTF?!?!? Never mind that Doc Searls’ thesis is about individual people helping individual people - and that this happens through blogs. You would think Linux Journal would sleep in their own bed.
  • The article can now be read online and as such, I am only including a few choice exceprts. Please read the entire article =)

    Another Bad “Pretty” Site: www.goincase.com

    Published on December 2, 2005

I walk into an Apple Store and pick up a new iPod 60GB today but they were out of cases. I have previously enjoyed the incase ones so I figured I would go to their website [www.goincase.com] and order one. No only would the website not load in Safari, the default browser for Apple computers, but it took me over a minute to get basic information about which cases would work with my iPod. I searched all around and could not find a way to actually purchase anything off the website. And to make matters worse - they did not direct me to a website where I could - except back to where
